Cancelling

How cancelling works, the offers you will see, when access ends, and what happens to your content.

On this page

Cancelling happens in the workspace rather than in Stripe's billing portal, because there are things worth capturing and offering that a portal button cannot.

The flow

  1. Reason

You say why. It is used to fix the thing you are leaving over, and one of the options is to say nothing at all.

  2. Up to two offers

Depending on the reason, you may be offered an alternative: a smaller plan that keeps the blog alive rather than stopping it. At most two, and you can decline both.

  3. Confirmation

With the exact date access ends.

Cancelling is reachable at every step. There is no point in the flow where the option disappears.

When access ends

At the end of the period you have paid for, not immediately. The end date is shown on every screen of the flow so it cannot be a surprise.

Cancelling is not a refund

They are separate actions and cancelling does not start the other. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not reverse a charge that has already been made, and a charge already made is refundable only in one narrow case: the first paid charge, asked for within 168 hours, on a Project that has generated almost nothing.

The post counts are scoped to the Project, not to the workspace: the policy asks whether that Project generated any post under its signup benefit, a trial or a Free grant alike, and no more than one after payment started. See refunds for the exact conditions, and note that an active Autopilot can generate the post that ends eligibility on its own.

The retention plans

The alternatives offered are smaller monthly plans that exist only here. They are not sold on the pricing page, and they are monthly only.

What happens to your content

If your blog is on a custom domain, remember to remove or repoint the CNAME record at your DNS provider once it stops serving.

Pausing instead

If the goal is a break rather than an exit, consider pausing Autopilot or archiving the Project. See pausing and archiving.
